THE BASICS

I was born in 1960.  You can do the math on age.  Born in Hanceville, Alabama and graduated from Gardendale High School in 1978.  I check "some college" on forms.

I live in Hoover with my wife Joan, my daughter Jessica and cats Fluffy and Monty.

I have a son Kris who is grown and gone who currently lives in Texas with his Wife Candice, Daughter Tara and Son Jacob.

I have had MANY irons in the fire over my lifetime but am trying hard to focus on just a few now; mainly holding down a bill paying job as a mainframe computer analyst while pursuing cartoon and comic writing gigs.

I also work as an actor on occation.  Small stuff for now but who knows?

MORE THAN YOU PROBABLY WANT TO KNOW

I was born in the mostly farming community of Hanceville, Alabama in April of 1960 and enjoyed farm life in the wide open spaces with three younger brothers and some very young and energetic parents.  Life was very laid back and full of adventures that came from our own imaginations.  I began drawing there and got a lot of encouragement from my teachers.  It also was a good excuse to check out art books that had naked women in them.  Purely for research, I assure you.

In 1971 my family moved about an hour south to Gardendale.  It was a great community but was I was initially depressed because I was giving up acres of land for a one-third acre lot.  I soon found that the closer quarters meant more kids to play with without having to ride my bike five miles to their house.  In fact, there were around thirty or so kids on my cul-de-sac of Mozelle Circle.  Once again; Life was good.

I was always a pretty large kid so playing sports was sort of expected of me and I played just about everything that came along.  Although I enjoyed myself I never really excelled in any of them.  I was painfully shy and self concious but probably came off as aloof.  I drew all the time and strove to improve my skills while learning to play guitar, be in the choir, do whatever sport was going at the time and hang out with my friends.  It is no wonder I never found time to crack a book.  The worst thing I ever did in High School was to sign up for art class one year.  Holy Crap!  talk about sucking the life out of someone.  I almost gave up art after that.  The thing that I remember the fondest was winning 'Best Actor' for playing Judd Fry in "Oklahoma"
Although I love art and music I never really considered either seriously as a living.  I just didn't know any real people who made a living at it.  Not at that time at least.  My cousin married a guy that is a fantastic artist who, as far as I know, has made his whole lifes living in art or art related fields.  His name is Mark Martin and He is a super cool guy.   He is NOT the racecar driver and here is his web page.
Until I was 36 I was almost always in a band of some description,  The longest was my stint with "Nite Lite" a group formed to be a blues band that somehow morphed into a Christian Rock band.  I played lead guitar and participated in vocals; four part mostly.  VERY fond memories there.  Some of the guys still play but I can only slice time so thin. Here is my Buddy Bruce's website called UGOT2MOVE
I used to work a side job as an actor in commercials, corporate videos and in ads.  It was an absoulte blast.  It even got me a few contacts to do art for some comercials. I hope to find the time to get back into it one day but the day job I have currently just isn't flexible enough.
